VIRTUAL WORKSHOP – The New York State Record Sealing Law

March 3, 2022 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm

Join us for a virtual workshop on Thursday, March 3rd, 11am-12pm

Did you know that certain criminal convictions in New York State (NYS) can be sealed? Do you know what it means to seal a criminal record? The NYS Record Sealing Law (Criminal Procedure Law §160.59) was established in October 2017, and it allows people having no more than two convictions (only one of which can be a felony) in NYS to be able to apply to have their convictions sealed. While sealing does not erase your criminal record, it significantly limits who can have access to it. People interested in attending this webinar should know that there are important time frames to be aware of regarding their most recent conviction or release from incarceration. Also, most misdemeanor convictions are eligible for sealing, and there are specific felony convictions that are NOT eligible for sealing.

This webinar will cover:
• Eligibility criteria for the record sealing law,
• The process for requesting that records be sealed,
• Review of some Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs), and
• A list of convictions that are NOT eligible for sealing.

For participants with disabilities, if you require any reasonable accommodations to participate in the event, please notify the Employee Development and Growth through Education (EDGE) Office at least 72 hours prior to the event at labor.sm.training@labor.ny.gov. The EDGE Office will make every reasonable effort to secure an accommodation that will meet your needs.
